If this special task force will give green signal and reposts that the board and governments are ready, the fully computerised avatar will be launched as early as 2014. On the other hand, if going deep into the technicalities of the exam, conducting computerised exam for over 15 lakh aspirants desirous to get admission in IITs, NITs and IIITs is no child’s play.

Earlier, JEE (Main)-was popularly known as All India Engineering Examination-which selects students to NITs and other central schools and shortlist 1.5 lakh top students will attempt second round of test to select students for premier IITs. Presently, most of the engineering exams are conducted pen-paper based including IIT-JEE and other state level exams. But, from last year CBSE has started offering computerised test for few students at selected test centres on first-cum-first-serve basis, spread over a test window of few days.

A senior CBSE official said, “Now we want to check whether we are ready to take the big leap towards dumping the pencil-paper format completely.”

This team will check 300 identified centres across 28 Indian cities, including abroad locations Singapore, Kathmandu and Colombo, where this test is planned to be scheduled. This special team will check whether these test centres will have basic infrastructure-CCTV surveillance, power backup, 20% additional desktops, standby servers, air-conditioning and access control measure. This team will also ensure that the software security and security arrangements to prevent question paper leak is proper or not.
